Investment casting is a process in which a master is embedded in a hard mold made from a material similar to plaster of Paris. Once the mold has hardened, the master is removed by melting or burning it out under high temperatures. This is the origin of the term "investment casting": the master is sacrificed (as an investment), but the result a more valuable final product.

Although this process is far less common in producing parts for models, it is useful for producing parts which must be strong for their size, such as an aircraft landing gear.

The parts produced by the process used by printapart.com are usable directly as investment casting masters. Some of our clients are producing jewelry in this way. Feel free to talk to us about your own needs if you think that investment casting is right for you, and we can help you get it done.
